Do you want a giant incinerator to belch out dioxins over you, your family and the beautiful Sussex countryside?
The proposed incinerator in the Ouse Valley would have a 330ft-high chimney. When the prevailing winds blow, Brighton and Hove, Worthing, Newhaven, Seaford, Eastbourne, Hastings, Uckfield, Crowborough, Lewes and Burgess Hill would be affected by its emissions.
The health of you, your children and your children's children will suffer.
Rubbish would be delivered to the site by lorries from across Sussex and be imported from outside the county.
The incinerator would burn more than 1,000 tonnes of rubbish per day, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year.
This burning would create more than 20,000 tonnes of "fly ash" per day, which would have to be taken to a landfill site anyway.
An incinerator would also have a detrimental effect on the community and decimate house prices.
If Brighton and Hove Council got to grips with recycling it would not need an incinerator.
When I lived in Brighton, I would put out two or three bags of rubbish per week. Now I live in Newhaven, with its efficient recycling system,
I put out just one bag per week and recycle paper, tin, plastic, cardboard, clothing and glass.
My fellow Sussex residents should get on to their local council and get it to take action on the recycling front.
If Sussex residents want to enjoy a green and pleasant land, write to the council before it is too late.
