These Canadian art-rock funksters are back with a second album Elevator, named after the turbulent year in which it was created.
"There were so many ups and downs that went into making this record," says lead man Steve Bays. "It was a manic period, a year of tripping hard, a year of asking yourself: 'Who are you? What's your scene? Does anyone even give a s***?' It was a year of dealing with your inner critic."
The last time these indie kids were in town was for Radio One Live in October 2003, when they were supported by the then-unknown Franz Ferdinand. The gig came on the back of 2002 debut album Make Up The Breakdown, which blew critics away with its head-pounding enthusiasm, heart-on-sleeve lyrics and hard-to-resist melodies.
One guitarist down and the band are delving into darker, more expansive sounds for this new album which, unfortunately, has received a far more tepid response than its predecessor. And as for Franz Ferdinand - well...
Support comes from The Departure and The Fever.
