Eastbourne Borough boss Garry Wilson today prepared for the biggest game in the club's history and said: "We've got nothing to lose."
Borough travel to Cambridge City for the Conference south play-off final tomorrow (3pm).
The winner will meet the successful side from the Conference north play-off final between Kettering and Altrincham at Stoke's Britannia Stadium on May 15.
Borough have made a meteoric rise under Wilson since he guided them to the County League title five years ago.
They finished in the top half of the Dr Martens eastern division in their first two seasons before being promoted to the premier division as runners-up in 2003.
Borough ensured their place in Conference south last season by finishing 11th and have beaten the odds again to reach the play-offs.
They recovered from a terrible start to this campaign, when they won two of their first ten games, to clinch fifth place on the last day, despite losing 4-1 against Carshalton because other results went their way.
Borough played their fourth game in eight days when they came from behind to beat much-fancied Thurrock 4-2 away in the semi-final on Tuesday.
They are the underdogs again against Cambridge, who finished 11 points clear of them in second place.
Wilson said: "It will be a great occasion with a big crowd but the pressure will not be on us. No one expected us to get this far so we will go there with nothing to lose and give it a go.
"Cambridge are the home side so they are the ones who are expected to win, which takes the focus off us.
"It will be another difficult game against a very mobile, young and fit team but we went up there earlier this season and got a draw, so there's no reason we can't do well again.
"We have had to play a lot of games over the last week but there are two ways of looking at it. If you have a week off, sometimes the nerves build up for the game but if you keep playing they don't."
Assistant boss Nick Greenwood added: "We are telling people to keep writing us off because everyone has done all the way through.
"We have been getting criticism from all over the place. Some said we got to the play-offs by default, which hurt us a bit to be honest.
"They then said we had nothing left after Saturday and we went on and produced a terrific performance against Thurrock. They can keep doing it as far as we are concerned and we will keep proving them wrong."
Captain Stuart Tuck, who scored a superb goal against Thurrock, has told Borough supporters they have a big part to play in the game. More than 100 fans made the trip to Thurrock and more are expected to travel up the M11.
Tuck said: "The supporters were absolutely fantastic against Thurrock. They could have stayed away after we lost on Saturday but instead they came and really got behind us.
"Hopefully they will do that again because they can make a big difference. This is not about league form, this is a cup match and we are going to get ourselves up for it. We are in there with a fighting chance and have shown over the last week that anything can happen."
Defender Phil Warner plays the last game of a three-month loan from Aldershot, while winger Ollie Rowland is serving the second game of a two-match ban.
