Conservative Andrew Tyrie has been re-elected in Chichester, one of the country's safest Tory seats.
Mr Tyrie won 25,302 votes compared to 11,355 in 2001.
When the MP, recently shadow paymastergeneral, was first elected in 1997 he won 9,734 votes.Second place went to Liberal Democrat candidate Alan Hilliar, a newcomer to the area who won 14,442 votes.
Labour candidate Dr Jonathan Austin, a 30-year-old scientist from Chichester, won 9,632 votes.
Elected: Andrew Tyrie (C) 25,302.
Not elected: Alan Hilliar (LD) 14,442, Dr Jonathan Austin (Lab) 9,632, Douglas Denny (UKIP) 3,025.
Turnout: 66.63 per cent.
Majority: 10,860.
