Former deputy head Sion Jenkins watched from the dock as a video showing his dead foster daughter lying in a pool of blood was played to a jury trying him for her murder.

The film showed Billie-Jo lying by the patio doors she was painting when she was bludgeoned to death with an 18-inch iron tent peg.

Her head lay on its side on a black binliner which held the blood from severe head injuries. She was hit at least five times, the Old Bailey heard.

The video was taken by police on the day she was murdered. It showed the stone steps leading up to the semi-detached house in Hastings where the Jenkins family lived.

The camera took the court along a side path, through a gate and past some usual garden items. It then led on to the patio where Billie-Jo's lifeless body came into vision.

Nearby was the can of paint she had been using and a few spatters of white paint. On a wooden garden trestle table was the paint lid.

The court was silent as a close-up of her head was shown.

The cameraman then moved to the scene from a different direction and again a close-up on her face was seen. One hand lay at her side, the other above her head.

The prosecution claim Jenkins attacked Billie-Jo after losing his temper with her and he was convicted of murder in 1998. He was freed on bail last year after the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial.

Jenkins, 47, who has since moved to Aberystwyth, Mid Wales, denies murdering Billie-Jo on February 15 1997. The defence says she was killed by someone else.

The trial was adjourned until tomorrow.
