A teenage menace who terrorised shopkeepers has been jailed.
Tony "Tubby" White has also been banned from entering Valley Road, Portslade, for the next five years.
A judge said that although White was still only 19, the action was necessary to protect shopkeepers and the public from him.
White, of Downsway, Southwick, was yesterday jailed for a total of four-and-half-years after admitting robbery, racially aggravated assault, criminal damage, burglary and stealing a car.
An antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) prevents him from going to Valley Road or shops there for five years.
Anthony Holt, prosecuting at Hove Crown Court, said White had already been banned by staff at Mulberry Wines when he went into the shop on September 4.
He threatened and pushed a female assistant to the ground before taking a bottle of Southern Comfort from a shelf.
Two weeks later he walked into the kitchen of a house in Wolesely Road, Portslade, helped himself to the owner's car keys and drove off in her Ford Escort, which he crashed outside a nearby pub.
At the end of October, he racially abused the owner of Choices takeaway in Valley Road, spitting in his face twice before throwing a stone, which hit him on the shoulder.
Geoffrey Lamb, defending, said White was "out of his head" on crack cocaine at the time the offences were committed.
He said White had made considerable progress in trying to come off the drug since he was arrested and remanded in custody.
Judge Anthony Niblett said he was satisfied that an Asbo was necessary in addition to a prison sentence.
He said: "It is necessary to protect the people of Portslade, and, in particular, the shopkeepers in Valley Road, from your behaviour.
"A prison sentence is justified not only to punish you but also to protect those who provide vital services to the community.
"They have been subjected to violence, harassment and abuse by you for far too long."
White will be released from prison on licence after serving half his sentence but will remain subject to the Asbo until May 2010.
He is also banned from using offensive or racially abusive language or assaulting, threatening or intimidating anyone.
