I wasn't at all surprised to hear of the violence against traffic wardens (The Argus, April 28). The parking situation in Brighton is dire.

I received two parking tickets in one week from avid car parking wardens in Albany Villas when visiting my mother in respite care.

It is so confusing in that road. Some parts are pay-and-display and other parts resident-only.

I had bought a ticket for two hours when I parked opposite a meter but came back to find I had been issued a parking ticket because I was in a residents' bay.

A few days later, being incredibly careful, I parked after 6pm and assumed it was free, only to get back and realise it is not free until after 8pm.

Also, in Regency Square I noticed on-street parking is an incredible £1.50 per half-hour.

This makes parking in the underground car park look cheap.

Again, it is really confusing deciding where one can park safely without getting towed away, because of all the different signs with different parking times and fees.

I can't imagine how foreigners cope. Are we trying to finish off our tourist industry for ever?

I have lived in Brighton for 30 years and use the bus every day to travel into work.

However, going out to local restaurants in the evening, I need to take the car as, with four people, taking the bus is a very expensive option.

I wouldn't mind so much if the money was going back to Brighton and Hove City Council rather than some private enterprise. Councillors should address this situation quickly before somebody gets killed.
