You may not have heard of London's People Show but, starting out in the Sixties in the basement of a bookshop on Charing Cross Road, the underground company was one of the first to excel in mixed-media theatre.

And, though its 100 or so performances have largely gone unadvertised, taking place everywhere from fields to telephone boxes and even on water, the People Show usually means a packed house.

Now the company is to unleash its imagination in the altogether more welcoming environs of the Spiegeltent, and the resulting variety show should prove unmissable.

Each night the dandy Brindley Jones will preside over a quick-fire roll call of acts, including Crevice Tool And The Attachments, the only domestic singing sensation who can claim to be "100 per cent suction", and The Lovely Latin Lady Juanita, the latest, perhaps only, innovation in transexual puppet striptease.

In addition, every show will feature two special guests, kicking off tonight with Brighton's own diva Liz Aggiss and comic George Egg, whose surreal stand-up incorporates such infamous stunts as "nail in the face" and "mousetrap on the tongue".

On Wednesday, Andrew Bailey, comedy store veteran and king of dysfunctional doowap, will feature alongside John Hegley, one of the country's most prolific and inventive comic poets, who was recently spotted flinging cabbages at Komedia.

Thursday, meanwhile, will see a visit from Rebecca Giblet, curator of the Museum Of Miracles, and an appearance by Lady Witherslack. "Watch, incredulous," shouts the programme, "as a middle-aged woman recites monologues whilst performing the splits; jazz method".

Starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10/£8, call 01273 709709.
