The Brighton Beach Boys kicked off a Brighton Festival Party on Saturday night with an amazing sell-out show.

The first half saw the band on cracking form, belting out the early surfing and hot rod hits including Surfin' USA, Little Deuce Coupe and I Get Around mixed with more soulful numbers such as In My Room and Surfer Girl before moving on to the pure pop glory of California Girls and Don't Worry Baby.

Having taken us on a journey through the early Sixties, the band returned for the second half to play the promised Pet Sounds album (released in 1966 and often voted in polls as the best album ever made) from start to finish. The songs highlighted Brian Wilson's beautiful arrangements and melodies with flutes, saxes, French horn, bass harmonica and glockenspiels joining the mix kicking off with Wouldn't It Be Nice and the hymn-like You Still Believe In Me.

One of Sussex's best-loved tribute acts, the BBB have a dedicated following of passionate fans who needed no encouragement to sing along to the swooning God Only Knows and dance like crazy to the brilliantly performed Sloop John B.

The rocking finale took us into the late-Sixties with classics Do It Again, Heroes & Villains, Darlin' and the epic Good Vibrations, which saw both drummers (who are also original members of Stomp) blowing everyone's minds with their incredible percussion skills.

By the time the encores Fun Fun Fun and Brian Wilson's solo plea Love and Mercy had finished, we had been treated to 37 songs and the exhausted but happy band took their final bow.

An incredible gig by a band who just keep getting better and better.
