Election 2005 was personalised in a nasty way - largely because Michael Howard was a slave to the advice given by his Aussie adviser, Lynton Crosby.

Mr Crosby was singing a song which was popular in Australia but which worked less well here.

It was an election of spits, spats and speculation. Some of the TV and radio debates were interesting.

George Galloway worked up ITV lunchtime news readers and viewers. I would be surprised if they ever have him on live TV again.

Tim Collins and Sarah Montague livened up the early morning with a red-hot difference of opinion. (I like Ms Montague and am pleased she features on the Today programme).

The big meetings with members of the public and party leaders didn't really work and were an uncomfortable mix of anger and adrenaline, which is not good TV.

Figures such as Labour 355 and Tory 197 suggest the election wasn't very close.

RIP Election 2005.
