Former boxing champion Chris Eubank will face trial accused of driving away a beer lorry he claimed was blocking the street.

The former world super-middleweight champion will appear at Brighton Magistrates Court on September 1.

Eubank, 38, of Upper Drive, Hove, has denied aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance.

He is accused of committing the offences in Sydney Street, Brighton, on February 21.

The father-of-four is alleged to have got behind the wheel of a Volvo lorry as it was delivering beer to The Office pub.

He is alleged to have hit a street sign causing £185 damage to the lorry.

Eubank, wearing a navy suit with gold buttons, pale pink shirt and pink striped tie, waved to the public gallery when he appeared in the dock of the magistrates court yesterday.

The prosecution amended the charge against him which meant he no longer had the option to have his trial before a judge and jury at the crown court.

A further hearing will take place at the magistrates court on June 2 when legal argument relating to the case will be heard.

Eubank, who was remanded on unconditional bail, posed for photographers outside the court in Edward Street.

He said: "This is a joke. I have been brought here like I am a criminal and everyone knows I am not."
