THE husband and wife team behind the world's first chocolate with a conscience have become millionaires overnight after selling their company to global giant Cadbury Schweppes.

Green & Black's organic chocolate has become one of the fastest growing confectionery brands since it was created more than ten years ago by Craig Sams and Jo Fairley from Hastings.

The company, which became the world's first major producer of organic chocolate, is believed to have sold for about £20 million.

But Mr Sams, 60, and his journalist wife, Jo, 48, are not planning on taking any world cruises or moving to a huge mansion in the Sussex countryside, despite their windfall of more than £5 million.

The couple are content to enjoy life in the centre of Hastings with their organic garden and Mr Sams happily tending to his allotment near their home in Old Town.

The millionaire is proud to serve on the Hastings Allotment Committee and as chairman of the Soil Association, which promotes organically grown products.

He will also continue as president of Green & Black's and keep an eye on operations.

The company's management team will also remain in place.

Mr Sams said: "Jo and I are quite happy to enjoy life in Old Town, although I wish the sea would warm up so I can once again enjoy my daily swim.

"We love the atmosphere of the town and the characters here.

"The money is nice because it will enable us to pay off debts but I am not that fond of travel so we will not be going off on cruises or anything like that."

The company's products account for five per cent of the UK market for block chocolate.

At present 6,000 tons of the chocolate are produced from the firm's factory in Italy each year and the deal with Cadbury Schweppes will enable the brand to expand.
