Chris Adams says Sussex have nothing to fear as they try to end a 19-year wait for major one-day success.
The county are through to the quarter-finals of the C&G Trophy after beating Nottinghamshire by four wickets at Hove yesterday.
They now face Lancashire on July 15 or 16 and Adams says his side will go to Old Trafford full of confidence.
Adams said: "To win any trophy you have got to beat the best and Lancashire are one of the best.
"We would have preferred a home tie but we've got a lot of confidence in our one-day cricket at the moment and have really improved this season.
"I'd say we are among the top eight one-day sides in the country and to know you are only two wins away from playing at Lord's, which is everyone's dream, is a massive incentive.
"Winning at Old Trafford would be a big step forward because our record in quarter-finals over the years is not that special."
Sussex restricted Nottinghamshire to 195-9 from their 50 overs and got home with three overs to spare thanks mainly to a fifth wicket stand of 103 between Murray Goodwin and Carl Hopkinson, who both made half-centuries.
Brighton-born Hopkinson, 23, also ran out Notts captain Stephen Fleming to secure his first man-of -the-match award. The date for the quarter-final will be decided today after Sky Sports choose which match they want to televise.
