By the time KT Tunstall arrived on stage the Edinburgh-born singer could have been in no doubt about her reputation in Brighton.
The concert was a sell-out and as the clock ticked past 9.30pm the crowd began slowclapping for the main act.
So when she appeared with her four-piece band KT looked as pleased to see the audience as they were to finally hear from her.
The singer's latest album Eye To The Telescope has drawn comparisons with artists as diverse as Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Roberta Flack and has proved a massive hit following an appearance on Later...With Jools Holland.
The title of her debut single Black Horse And The Cherry Tree is enough to warrant interest and has received massive airplay thanks to the likes of Jo Whiley.
But artists revered as the next big thing can often fall short of the mark with follow-up songs and album fillers which fail to live up to the first release.
KT's live performance went beyond the hype as she showcased a powerful singing voice matched with original lyrics and an enthusiastic stage presence.
New single Other Side Of The World drew massive applause from the packed floor and the response continued to build throughout the night as the audience craned there necks for a glimpse of the singer.
KT is an act worth waiting for and looks capable of living up to expectations.
