Sussex homes at risk of flooding are to benefit from a £96,000 scheme to improve the sewer network.
Thames Water will shortly start work on homes in Park Way, Crawley.
Many houses in that area have been flooded when heavy rainfall has proved too much for local sewers to cope with.
Properties have suffered flooding from their own pipes because sewer pipes are full.
Project manager for Thames Water Bob Turner said: "Sewer flooding can be an unpleasant and distressing experience so it is important we make these improvements to reduce the risk of the problem recurring."
On Monday, work will start on the construction of 25m of new pipes to increase the capacity of the sewer network.
