Albion manager Mark McGhee today pledged to adopt a more ruthless approach to the Seagulls' second season in the Championship.
McGhee warned there will be no hiding place for any player unable to force themselves into the first team reckoning.
They will soon be moved on if they fail to stake a claim.
McGhee has trimmed the squad which avoided relegation on the final day by releasing long-serving pair Paul Watson and Nathan Jones.
He said: "This time last year I was saying we will see how we do in this division and take stock.
"Next year is going to be different. I am going to be adopting a much harder line.
"Nathan was not in the team last season but we kept him and he was still part of things.
"Next year, if anyone is not in the team, we will get them out as soon as possible.
"The message to the players is to get themselves into the reckoning."
Players like Maheta Molango will have to rise to the challenge of trying to win a regular place.
The Swiss-born striker made only four more appearances after scoring 12 seconds into his English League debut on the opening day of the season at Reading last August.
McGhee has already revealed his top summer transfer target is a hold-up centre forward.
That will push Molango even further down the pecking order behind Leon Knight, Mark McCammon, Chris McPhee and Jake Robinson.
