Of all soap stars, none is more beloved than Wendy Richard.
We all loved her long before EastEnders for her portrayal of the delectable Miss Brahms in Are You Being Served? Not everyone knows, however, that Wendy is the chirpy dolly bird on Mike Sarne's 1962 number one hit record Come Outside.
Mike Sarne's singing is reminiscent of Joe Brown. Mike cemented himself into our affections with his songs about a hapless young man's attempts to get friendly with any nice girl passing his way.
Three months after Come Outside's runaway success, Mike scored again with Will I What?
The girl this time around was Billie Davis, who went on to have her own record success with Tell Him, reaching number ten in the charts in February 1963.
Which lady performed on which record has been a frequently asked question for more than four decades now and quizmasters all over the country frequently slip in a "Who sang on what record" question when they need to liven things up.
Mike Sarne did a third boy-tries-to-meet-girl record entitled The Waitress Song, concerning another young man's attempts to strike up a friendship with the young lady serving him while she will only talk about what is on the menu that day.
The girl on this occasion was Sheila Whittingham, whose performance as the waitress who only wanted to wait was a real gem.
Mike Sarne had hoped for a hat trick but The Waitress Song did not make it into the charts and was therefore denied the air time a successful record must have.
Perhaps it was for the best, as it would only have added to the who-did-what conundrum.
