Along with other conservationists, I share Mrs Gail Greaves' concern over the loss of gardens which are being concreted over for car parking spaces (Letters, April 29).
This spoils the appearance of any road and destroys valuable wildlife habitat - even a small grassy area can help support butterflies, bees, etc.
Unfortunately, planning permission is not always required to concrete over a garden - this is something I would like to see changed.
Brighton and Hove is a special place and we are lucky enough to have special wildlife living alongside the residents.
Every tree, hedgerow, shrub, garden and green space helps to support our city wildlife and the less we lose the better.
Wildlife losing out to development and road traffic means people lose out too - no longer seeing their garden visited by a hedgehog, fox or a favourite bird. We need to keep our roads as green as possible for both people and wildlife.
