I must take issue with Nigel Enever over The Gatwick Express (Letters, April 30).
I, too, used a Brighton-to-London service that Saturday and my experience was very different.
The National Rail website warned of engineering works with a replacement bus service that weekend and, when I arrived at Brighton Station, there were posters and indicator boards showing what was happening. There were also regular announcements over the PA.
At the ticket counter, there were further notices informing passengers of the engineering works and directions to catch the bus service from outside the Queen's Head pub.
I caught the 9.20am bus and, after changing to the train, was on London Bridge platform at 11am.
My return journey was equally painless. Leaving London Bridge at 4.10pm, I was home by 5.50pm.
At Haywards Heath, all the buses were lined up with rail staff directing passengers to appropriate buses.
People are too quick to blame our rail staff for a poor service. I was impressed by the efficiency and courtesy of all the rail staff involved in my two journeys and I shall not be put off from travelling on a day with engineering works again.
Mr Enever concedes engineering works need to be carried out but I cannot agree that the service on this day was less acceptable than it could and should have been.
