More than 50 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine were recovered by police thanks to an alert member of the public.
The man saw some suspicious activity on Eastbourne seafront and flagged down a passing police car.
He directed them to a spot near the Eastbourne Sailing Club on Royal Parade at 6pm on Friday, where the officers found the wraps.
Chief Inspector Peter Mills, of Eastbourne police, said: "I am most grateful to the alert member of the public who flagged down a passing police car and led to the recovery of these drugs.
"I would not have wanted these drugs to have fallen into the hands of children.
