James Langhan expected a refreshing break at a Turkish treatment centre but instead got a £2,000 holiday from hell.

The 28-year-old journeyed from his home in Sussex to Kangal Fish Springs in Turkey for a week of treatment, which was supposed to help his psoriasis.

The centre promises "total healing" of the skin condition after 21 days for patients who spend eight hours a day in one of its spa pools.

But Mr Langhan, of Greenland Road, Worthing, said patients who put their heads underwater got ear and eye infections and returned home uncured.

He took a series of photographs showing mouldy bathrooms and cracked paving stones.

He broke off his holiday halfway through but he and his father-in-law Andy Collins were told by tour operator BWDK Travel Group they would get no refund.

Mr Langhan, a customer services worker, said: "I have had psoriasis for about ten years and have tried everything so when I saw an advert for the centre I thought it sounded bizarre but it was worth giving it a go.

"I went out there on May 3 with my father-in-law. In the end I only stayed until May 12.

"In the brochure there are hills behind the centre but that's just not true. It's just desolate and about 14km from anywhere.

"The conditions were awful. There was mould on the ceilings.

"The rooms were really basic, which we could handle, but the bathrooms were absolutely filthy.

"There were a lot of people there who had psoriasis on their scalp and when they put their heads under the water in the pools they got eye and ear infections.

"Some people were not cured when they went home and it is only temporary anyway as the condition comes back when you leave.

"They also advised us not to go out at night because of wild dogs and wolves, which was worrying, and the staff were not that friendly.

"The whole place was run-down and we just wanted to leave but the tour operator kept trying to get us to stay.

"In the end I said I wanted to get home to my wife and baby so they re-arranged the flights.

"People go there as a last resort and it is not how it seems in the brochure or on the web site.

"I tried to get my money back but the tour operator just didn't want to know."

Koray Altan, manager of BWDK Travel Group, said: "The centre is in a rural area and is like an oasis so it is not near any big city.

"It is also a healing centre and not like a hotel.

"Everything is natural and people do not get infections from the water.

"We ask patients to spends two sessions of four hours in the pool every day and by the end of 21 days they are healed and free from pain. But this is temporary as there is no cure for psoriasis.

"There is algae in the bathrooms which is natural and you can't just take it out of its environment.

"When we advertise on our web site we show people exactly what is there - what they see is what they get - and it is a bit of a culture shock for some people."
