I was relieved Frank Gehry's design for the King Alfred development was based on a Victorian lady. At first sight, I had taken it to symbolise the horrendous devastation of a tornado or tsunami.
His topsy-turvy design strikes me as not having the same elegance as a Victorian lady but presumably any councillor who approves his scheme will fill in my artistic knowledge.
If our council gives it the go-ahead, perhaps it could also commission him to plan a new football stadium?
I would suggest a pear-shaped design, with one set of goal-posts at the thin end of the pitch and two sets at the fat end. This would not only look very artistic, it would certainly add a lot more colour to each game.
The raucousness Mr Gehry admires could be increased if he designed the spectators' stands to face away from the pitch instead of towards it.
Mr Gehry might also be the solution to the problem of the West Pier. If the remaining wreckage were to be removed and replaced by a giant floating model of the architect, locals and visitors could disport themselves along this in tribute to his spectacular improvement of our seafront.
