I was pleased to see, in The Argus (May 21) that Frank Gehry is sticking to his original concept for the King Alfred site.
I was also pleased he is ignoring the unelected HOVA and Brighton Society. Born in Brighton, in the middle of the last century and, having spent my life in the construction industry, I do not need these pressure groups to tell me what is supposedly good for the city.
I have always got pleasure from Brighton's architectural range - The Lanes, the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Station, the two piers and Embassy Court, as well as its post-war buildings, such as the University of Sussex .
While the second half of the last century did not see the city produce many outstanding buildings, there is still hope. With the Jubilee Library, the King Alfred development and, hopefully, Falmer stadium, the city will soon start a golden era.
