It wasn't so much because he took part in E4's reality show Kings Of Comedy that we remember this Brighton-based comic, but because he walked out of it, tanked up on wine, just before everyone expected him to win.
"I imagined the programme might actually be about comedy," he said at the time. "But it wasn't."
Unpredictable, sardonic and gloriously random, Boothby tends to veer off on tangents during his shows.
Mixing some baffling music (Umbrella Head Boy and Planet Dog are favourite songs) with a few jokes and a "bit of waffle in-between", he can jump from tales of jellyfish making jam sandwiches, to songs about lisping kittens with pointing mittens and drawing analogies between Olympic skiers and sperm.
