I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration at seeing the latest, ghastly proposal for the King Alfred centre (The Argus, May 21).

After the original "crushed tin cans" were rejected, I was hoping the council would support a decent, unobtrusive development, which would blend harmoniously with the elegant simplicity of the surrounding architecture.

Instead, we're getting the opposite: Another eccentric monstrosity by a flashy US architect with no connection whatsoever with our community and a Hollywood actor who has got bored with making movies.

It would disfigure Hove seafront forever and its impact on our way of life is not to be underestimated.

The huge structures will deprive the neighbourhood of its sea view, so that only those who inhabit the tower blocks will be able to enjoy it, at the expense of everyone else.

Perhaps its unsurprising there is already so many "for sale" signs in St Aubyns and the nearby streets.

Who would want to wake up in the morning and, instead of seeing the sea, look out on a huge pile of junk?
