Councillor Craig Turton should take a walk along Western Road from Palmeira Square to Norfolk Square and see for himself how illegal parking causes congestion.

Vehicles parked on double-yellow lines, sometimes directly opposite each other on both sides of the road, reduces the road width so that other vehicles, especially buses, struggle to get past.

Where are the parking attendants, who are there to enforce safety? Most can be seen parading up and down

designated parking areas waiting for vehicle permits to expire.

These properly-parked cars don't cause any problems to other cars yet these "soft targets" are stalked by attendants, while vehicles which are parked, blocking the road, are ignored.

Due to the general problem of finding a parking space in the evenings, people are forced to park in any available space, or face a trek home. The majority of these cars do not cause problems because they are moved in the morning when people go to work.

However, I have recently seen these "soft" targets being ticketed by attendants, and in some cases removed, to at 11pm or later.

I welcome the addition of parking spaces by making Waterloo Street one-way but with the apprent over-issuing of permits, the problem of finding a parking space is now just as bad.

Where is the revenue raised from all the parking fines spent?

I understand some of it is ring-fenced to be ploughed back into parking facilities and road improvement. Well, I for one have certainly not noticed any improvement in either.
