Why is it our council, police and community workers believe that by enforcing a public smoking ban, Brighton and Hove will become a more enjoyable place to live, work or visit?
The real issues which should be addressed to make our city a better place are better and cheaper parking, removal of graffiti, treatment of the sewage which pumps out on to the Palace Pier beaches, the increasing number of homeless people living rough on the street, the mountains of household refuse which collect outside our homes, and the underage and binge-drinking problem which persists across the city.
Banning smoking may make a better enviroment in restaurants, pubs and the workplace but without these other, more important, problems being resolved first, the tourists, whether they smoke or not, will go elsewhere.
And just in case anyone is wondering, I am a non-smoker.
