An artist who plans to cartwheel 57 miles from Brighton to central London has applied for £3,800 in Arts Council funding to pay for the project.
Mark McGowan, from Camberwell in south London, expects the journey to take around three weeks.
He plans to do it with 12lb rocks on each ankle and 18 sticks of Brighton Rock taped to his face.
He hopes it will draw attention to the problem of people taking home pebbles they find on the beach.
He said: "I must admit I'm not very good at doing cartwheels. I don't do the spinning ones footballers do.
"I put my feet down and then spin my hands around.
"It will probably take a few weeks to complete. I am going to go along the old roads, not the A23."
He hopes the journey will make people think twice before taking pebbles from the beach when they visit the coast.
