A brand new production of Marc Camoletti's follow-up to the hilarious Don't Dress For Dinner is playing in Eastbourne this week.
Just Desserts was first presented in Paris in 1993 under its original title, Sexe Et Jalousie. This production marks its British debut and also its English language premiere.
The English version is by Tudor Gates and has an all-star cast.
Giles Watling, best known for his role as the vicar in Bread, plays Bernard, who discovers his wife, Jacqueline (Michelle Dawson), is having an affair.
He decides to take revenge on her lover Robert (Patric Kearns) by inviting him to dinner, where he intends to seduce Robert's wife.
Watling and Kearns are the perfect foil for each other and the scenes between them are some of the funniest in the play.
Robert hires a high-class hooker, Barbara, to stand in for his wife. Emmerdale's Kathy Glover (Malandra Burrows) looks stunning in her red mini-dress and carries off her role to perfection.
Britt Ekland has a small but significant role as Robert's wife, Juliette, who arrives in time to interrupt their meal.
Internationally acknowledged as one of the world's most beautiful women, Britt Ekland is still as lovely as she was when she made her West End debut in 1978.
Anita Graham is hilarious as the long-suffering French maid, Marie-Louise, and is definitely the star of the show.
Ian Dickens' direction is slick and fast-moving and Alan Miller Bunford has designed a set which adapts well to the evening scenes with the lights twinkling outside.
This play was first performed on April 29 this year so it is very new and changes are still being made with the intention of taking it to the West End. But it is well worth seeing at this early stage of its career.
Showing until Saturday June 4. Call 01323 412000.
