This is the man who was found dead after an argument with a gang of youths.
Gary Rae, 40, was discovered bleeding heavily outside his flat above a shop in the centre of Hailsham on Sunday evening following an altercation with the group.
Mr Rae, who was married with two children, was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital but later died of his injuries.
His family today spoke of their sorrow at his loss.
A statement said: "Gary will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, especially his two children and two step-children.
"He also leaves behind three grandchildren.
"No one deserves to die this way and he didn't stand a chance against so many.
"We have every faith in the detectives assigned to this investigation and are sure his murderers will be brought to justice."
The family declined to comment further on the case.
Five teenagers appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates Court yesterday charged with Mr Rae's murder.
William Devall, 18, of Meadow Road, Hailsham, and Shane Challice, 18, of South Road, Hailsham, were remanded to appear at Lewes Crown Court on June 14.
A 15-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also remanded in custody.
Two further youths who had been arrested in connection with the attack have been released without charge.
