Jeremy Barnes used to be in Neutral Milk Hotel, a psychedelic rock band that released six albums throughout the Nineties.
Neutral Milk Hotel are now in limbo, but Jeremy's band A Hawk And A Hacksaw continue their lofty ideals of musical experimentation and high-concept lyrics.
AHAAH's eponymous debut begins with the crow of a cockerel and a gong, and was recorded in rural France. Its ramshackle, leftfield sound takes in accordion, piano honking horns and honking geese.
Jeremy's second AHAAH album, Darkness At Noon, was inspired by a year-long trip through England, Prague and new Mexico, where he collected instruments and absorbed musical ethnographies. On the record, a speech by George Bush merges with gipsy, mariachi, American folk and European music.
A strange, modern folk band who's only trouble is ensuring they live up to their convergent albums.
Starts 8pm, tickets cost £4/£5. Call 01273 603974.
