A Brighton and Hove Albion supporter who scooped £10,000 in a football competition is spending part of his winnings on getting his brother's eyesight fixed.

Aaron Berry was plucked from more than a million entries to win £250,000 for his beloved Seagulls from Championship sponsors Coca Cola - and £10,000 for himself.

IT trainer Aaron, 29, said: "All my family has worn glasses. Now I've got the money, I thought I would treat my brother to the operation. Even when my brother goes swimming he has to keep his glasses on because his eyesight is so bad.

"He has been waiting to have the surgery for a long time but has not been able to afford it. He was gob-smacked when I told him I would pay for it."

The father-of-two from Worthing underwent the same epi-lasek operation three years ago to swap his own short-sightedness for 20-20 vision.

Stuart, 27, from Portslade, said his brother's gift was typical of his generous nature.

He said: "My eyesight is quite poor. If I take my glasses off I can see my hand if it is a foot away from my face but everything else is totally blurred.

"This operation will really improve the quality of my life. I'm looking forward to playing football with my kids without the threat of having my glasses falling off."

Stuart, a dispatch controller for Sussex police, will have the surgery at Optimax eye clinic in Church Road, Hove, on Monday, June 13. The operation costs £600 for each eye.

Aaron will still have plenty of cash left. He plans to take his girlfriend and two children on holiday next year.

Cash-strapped Albion manager Mark McGhee will spend the club's £250,000 windfall on the player or players of his choice next season.

Aaron won the Coca-Cola competition after registering his vote via the club web site every day throughout the 80-day promotion, to see off competition from thousands of supporters of Football League and Scottish Premier League clubs.
