As a tenant farmer of Telscombe Tye, I do not wish to get involved with the politics of the situation but a decision has been made to manage the Tye in an environmentally-friendly manner by encouraging natural vegetation through a system of controlled grazing and by forbidding fertilisers.

While I am happy with this land use, I wish to register my disgust with those who continually cut the fence on the Tye. On June 2, it had been cut in 15 places.

Apart from the vandalism, I hope these people are happy to live with the consequences should cattle stray on to the road and cause a serious accident.

I don't mind cattle grazing the Tye - they can be moved at little cost. But Telscombe council has received large grants dependent on the Tye being managed in this way. If it is not managed accordingly, the money will have to be returned, putting a hole in their budget and resulting in the Tye becoming overgrown scrubland.

If people wish to register a protest there are better ways than vandalism. Haven't there just been local elections? There has also been a referendum on fencing the Tye, which was in favour by about 4-1.
