Albion have received no offers for player-of-the-year Adam Virgo. And boss Mark McGhee admits he cannot understand why.

Virgo top-scored for Albion last season with nine goals, including the last-day strike against Ipswich which kept them up. He was also a mainstay in defence.

Dan Harding, however, remained the hottest transfer property at Withdean.

McGhee said: "I don't understand that. Adam Virgo was sensational last season.

"I'm surprised people have not been queuing up at my door to try and sign him. Dan Harding was out of contract, which is obviously a factor.

"He had a few good games towards the end of the season but, apart from that, he had a disappointing season.

"I suppose his name was built up by the fact he was with England under-21s."

Albion have been told they could face a battle if they want to prise striker Freddy Eastwood away from League One newcomers Southend.

Eastwood is likely to feature on the Seagulls' wanted list of young strikers but he insisted: "I'm happy at Southend.

"It's my local club but if another club came in with a big offer I might have to go."

Coventry have confirmed their new home at the Ricoh Arena will not be ready in time for the start of the 2005-06 Championship season.

The 32,000-seater stadium, which forms just one part of a £113million development in the Foleshill area of the city, will not now open until Saturday August 20, meaning Micky Adams' Sky Blues have been forced to ask the Football League fixture planners for three consecutive away games at the start of the campaign.

Wolves have rejected an improved Sunderland offer for wantaway striker Kenny Miller.

Miller, 25, was placed on Wanderers' transfer list at his own request last summer.

He was the subject of an initial seven-figure Black Cats bid last week but the Molineux board knocked back the Wearsiders while indicating an improved offer would be needed for Miller, who has a season to run on his contract.

"We received a second offer but it fell way short of our valuation of the player and we communicated this to Sunderland," Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said.

"The manager would be keen to keep Kenny for next season and unless a suitable bid is received, we are happy for him to stay and play for us next term."

Leicester manager Craig Levein has completed the signing of Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas on a three-year deal.
