Police are threatening to impose antisocial behaviour orders on people caught driving mini-motorbikes dangerously.

If Sussex officers see someone riding a mini-motorbike - or any vehicle - dangerously they will seize the machine.

If they are forced to do this repeatedly with the same person they will seek an Asbo against the culprit.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "These mini-motorbikes are designed to be ridden off-road and are potentially dangerous when ridden on a road without protective clothing.

"Bikes ridden on a public road must be registered with the DVLA, taxed and fitted with a number plate, lights and brakes."

He said the rider must also hold a valid driving licence, be insured and wear a motorcycle helmet.

"If they are ridden dangerously or in an antisocial manner they shouldn't be surprised if the bikes are taken away by a tow truck.

"We will deal robustly with these riders, seizing their bikes and seeking antisocial behaviour orders against them if necessary."

Police have the power to confiscate a bike if the driver has already been warned but continues to drive antisociallyor cause alarm, distress of annoyance to others.

The driver must pay £129 to have it recovered and £15 each day that it is in a compound.
