The new "high hedge" legislation, I am sure, will be welcomed by those blighted by the tall Leylandii hedge of an uncooperative neighbour.
As a small, but quality, developer of residential property, we took the initiative seven years ago of introducing a restrictive covenant, preventing any of our purchasers, and subsequent house owners, from growing Leylandii or similar fast-growing trees.
Of more than 100 homes sold in the last seven years, never have any of our purchasers queried this covenant.
Surely it makes sense for new house builders and developers to introduce such a covenant, to save future homeowners from the unnecessary anxiety and expense of having to pay £600 for their local council to arbitrate.
Perhaps Clare Hinchcliffe of Hedgeline should campaign for new house builders to introduce such a covenant in all new home sale contracts.
