Vera Brackenridge (Letters, June 2) stated Blue Badge guides are woefully non-existent in Brighton, which is incorrect.

I am one of the most active local Blue Badge guides and organise the monthly Ghost Walks here.

Blue Badge guides are tour guides who undergo an extensive training course on all aspects of this country and the local area,

at the end of which we sit a series of practical and written exams. Those who qualify are registered (licensed). We must also participate in on-going professional development programmes.

All this costs a lot of money. We are self employed and pay to be included in Brighton and Hove City Council's tourism initiatives and any for other publicity, as well as for public liability insurance and for annual registration with national and local guiding associations.

Many people assume we are subsidised in some way, which happens in some parts of the country but not Brighton.

To see what a Blue Badge looks like, it is displayed on our web site at www.brightonwalks.com
