I'm happy to see Brighton and Hove doing its bit to raise money for famine relief, encouraged by Bob Geldof and friends.
However, it is time local businesses became more involved in fighting world hunger.
Recently, I applied for a part-time job at a new bakery and was shocked to learn, at the end of the working day, everything fresh and unsold is chucked out - the staff are not even allowed to take it home.
When I suggested donating the food to the homeless, I was met with indifference from the management.
When you consider this is a national company, it is a lot of food wasted. Cakes, bread and pies are sent to the "land-fill site", no doubt to keep up profit margins.
Is this the way to conduct a business in the face of terrible world hunger?
