If you need your faith restored in live music, go and see Nizlopi.
Although only a duo, they have more passion and vibrance than most bands you'll see.
With the extraordinary John Parker on double bass and human beatbox and soulful Luke Concannon on guitar and lead vocals, they create an experience which verges on being religious.
It was a sort of camp fire sing-along meets gospel bliss, with John barefooted and Luke stomping around in his socks. Persistent calls for their best-loved song and latest single JCB resulted in a gentle acoustic performance which at times could barely be heard over the crowd's chanting of the quirky chorus, "I'm Luke, I'm five, my dad's Bruce Lee, he drives me round in his JCB."
Nizlopi conjure a spirit which is innocent, raw and unaffected. How this will survive in the cut-throat music industry I have no idea but for now they are a replenishing experience.
JCB is out now and is the first single from their debut album, Half These Songs Are About You.
