A teenage blacksmith beat scores of other talented youngsters to win the title of Young Craftsman of the Year.
Chris Millan, 17, a boarder at the Camelia Botnar Foundation in Cowfold, which provides training and work experience for disadvantaged young people, wowed judges at the competition at the South of England Show with his stunning garden gate wrought from iron poles.
He said: "I just took one of the ordinary gates we make at the foundation and developed it, putting extra things on it to make it more interesting.
"I like the creative side of being a blacksmith and would like to do an apprenticeship and then open my own business, maybe teaching people."
John Penny, a blacksmith and teacher at the foundation said: "I'm very proud of him. It has given the foundation a real boost."
Chris won a total of £850, which he said he would put towards buying a forge.
