I have given blood in Brighton and Hove for more than 25 years. I'm not particularly proud of this and don't want to make a fuss of it, either.

I just do it and I'm not sure why, other than to help people in need.

For many years, the procedure took about an hour and I went twice a year. In the past decade or so, the time it takes has increased to two hours because of all the health checks - but I still don't mind donating.

Now, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to park when I give blood, as well as more expensive.

It can cost up to £3 to park while I give blood. I wrote to the National Blood Service because I felt donors, such as myself, may be discouraged.

The National Blood Service replied it was aware of this problem in the Brighton and Hove area and that it had had a number of discussions with Brighton and Hove council to try and encourage it to provide free parking for blood donors.

However, all attempts to persuade the council have been unsuccessful.

This incenses me. Brighton and Hove council is money mad when it comes to parking. About giving blood, it has no thought for anyone but itself.
