The comments by Peter Bailey (Letters, June 2) about the Brighton and Shoreham Tramway Company reminded me of when the first motor-trains ran.
The railway company kept the fares down to compete with local bus companies, especially along coastal town routes, such as Brighton, Holland Road Halt, Hove, Aldrington Halt, Portslade, Fishersgate, Southwick, Shoreham by Sea, Lancing, Worthing stations.
As Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company and Southern Trains are in the same, profitable position, and part of a subsidised global conglomerate, perhaps pensioners should be allowed to use their bus passes on the trains?
