Double parking has become common in the Warleigh Road area, with the offenders having no thought for the poor person they have blocked in, or of the fact they may have prevented emergency vehicles from
getting through.
Last week, I saw two fire engines and a refuse lorry having difficulty getting through because of double parking.
In their frustration, the crews of both bounced the offending car out of the way, which is fine for fit people but is hardly an option for the majority.
People here get frustrated by the lack of parking spaces and we need a solution.
However, it is no excuse for this anti-social behaviour, which, at best, causes inconvenience and, at worst, could cost lives.
Residents in this part of town have to accept they sometimes may have to park several streets from where they live.
When the police have been called out, they found the owners and asked them to move their car.
Unfortunately, having not been penalised, the offenders just double park once again.
At last, however, police are starting to issue tickets.
But unless they enforce the law regularly, offenders will continue to ignore their requests.
Pedestrians have resorted to leaving notes on cars but it will only be a matter of time before there are "parking wars".
The sooner resident parking is introduced, the better. In the meantime, we need more policing.
