I suggest the water companies in Sussex send a delegation to Saudi Arabia or Las Vegas, which have less rainfall than we do in Sussex, to see how they cope with droughts.
North and middle England have loads of water all year round. Why don't they pipe it down to the south. Petrol was piped across to France in the Second World War so what's the problem in doing the same thing with water?
