Perhaps people would have more respect for society as Nicholas Soames MP suggests (The Argus, June 16) if a stricter attitude was applied to our so-called betters.
The Argus has reported the lenient treatment given to pop stars, footballers, business directors, and even policemen, who have all been convicted of various offences, such as speeding, drunken driving and road accidents, but who have been given laughably lenient sentences which ordinary people would not have not received for the same offences.
