Reality TV show The X Factor may have faded from our screens but G4 are showing signs of greater longevity.

Despite not winning the £1 million recording contract, which went to Steve Brookstein, the group of classically trained opera singers have had the last laugh.

While Brookstein has rapidly faded into obscurity, G4's brand of popera has propelled them to stardom and a sell-out tour.

The fab four burst on stage in sharp dark grey suits and kicked off their set with a rousing version of Queen's Somebody to Love, following it quickly with Radiohead's Creep.

A change of tempo followed with It's My Way before the individual members took turns to do solos. First up was the lynchpin of the group Bognor's Jonathan Ansell. He sang Boyz To Men and Mariah Carey's duet, Sorry.

Next was Walking In Memphis sung by Mike Christie followed by Ben Thapa singing Enrique Iglesias' Hero.

Finally, Matt Stiff took to the stage belting out a rousing version of New York New York in his rich deep voice.

The four regrouped soon after, sporting jeans and T-shirts, for a medley of Beach Boys hits, including I Get Around, Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows.

They dueted with Lesley Garrett on Barcelona, albeit with Garrett on a giant TV screen.

Returning to their more traditional operatic routes, G4 sang Jerusalem and a spectacular and moving version of Nessun Dorma.

Favourites from Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and REM appealed to the younger members of the audience before the finale with a fantastic rendition of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

The foursome have just about completed the transformation from awkward young boys to self-assured, confident performers, although the Home Counties posh still remains.

No doubt it will become more and more honed with time and their superb voices will continue to impress audiences.

G4 have wide-ranging appeal, attracting an audience of both young and old. Quite what their X Factor is remains a mystery but it is probably due to their skill at taking familiar pop songs and giving them a classical twist.

Clearly they have more staying power than their other reality TV contemporaries. With a new album being released shortly, expect to see a lot more of G4 in the months to come.
