Three drivers wrongly issued parking tickets have had their fines quashed.
Les McMullan, 66, was one of six who found a £30 ticket slapped on his car after parking on a stretch of Crowhurst Road, Brighton, where the double yellow lines had been blackened out by Brighton and Hove City Council.
He and his colleagues at the Renault garage were shocked when they appealed against the fines and found three had been let off while the other three had to pay.
But the council has admitted the fines should never have been given.
A spokeswoman said: "We can confirm the double-yellow lines have been removed on this section of road. If the three people parked on this stretch of road whose appeals were dismissed can contact us again in writing their tickets will be quashed."
Mr McMullan, of Windlesham Road, Brighton, said: "It is tremendous."
