In 1984, my wife and I moved to Vale Avenue in Patcham. It was just before the A27 Brighton bypass opened. Before it did, we felt the full impact of the traffic, including heavy goods vehicles, which used Vale Avenue to avoid the city centre.
So we saw the traffic congestion and then the value of the bypass after it was built.
Now there is a proposal to subject Vale Avenue, once again, to traffic congestion through the designation of Patcham Court Farm as a park-and-ride facility.
Before any irrevocable decision is taken on this scheme, a full assessment of the traffic implications needs to be made by the Highway Authority or some other independent organisation which is experienced in traffic management.
Soon after our arrival here, we remember that a plan for the use of Patcham Court Farm was turned down on account of traffic problems, which are even greater now than they were then.
