Chris Rackley (Letters, June 23) suggests that, following the London to Brighton bike ride, Brighton and Hove City Council should consider stopping, redirecting or restricting the number of riders.
Mr Rackley obviously can't see it is car drivers who bring Brighton to a standstill most sunny summer weekends yet he doesn't offer the same advice to motorists.
The thousands of cyclists doing this ride over the years have raised millions of pounds for the British Heart Foundation and Mr Rackley, or his family, may some day benefit from its research.
The ride is hard and, this year, was particularly hot so entrants should be applauded, not damned for causing traffic delays.
The London Marathon brings parts of London to a standstill but those London boroughs involved embrace the event.
Stop being selfish and narrow-minded, Mr Rackley. Leave your car at home and enjoy this event.
