I see Norman Baker MP and councillor David Rogers of Newhaven are campaigning for Transmanche to improve its marketing for the cross-Channel link from Newhaven.
Seine-Maritime, the French department which sponsors Transmanche, has already taken a lease on the port, hired two boats to keep the service running and ordered two new boats.
Our Government, local authorities and businesses have failed to agree a regeneration plan for the run-down port and have contributed little or nothing to the existing or to a future ferry service.
Marketing costs a great deal.
Are our politicians offering to find finance or are they just making free with French taxpayers' money?
Besides, wouldn't they be in a stronger position if Mr Baker hadn't campaigned so successfully for a single carriageway bridge on the A27 at Beddingham, which will create a bottleneck on the access road to the motorway from a successful port at Newhaven?
